Now there were certain Greeks among those who came up to worship at the feast. Then they came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida of Galilee, and asked him, saying, “Sir, we wish to see Jesus.”
Philip came and told Andrew, and in turn Andrew and Philip told Jesus.
But Jesus answered them, saying, “The hour has come that the Son of Man should be glorified. Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain. He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honour. John 12:20-16
The Greeks who believed in Yahwehhad come to Jerusalem to worship God and observe the feast. They came and sought for Jesus.
Yet, seeking Jesus is only the first step and is not enough on its own. Seeking Him we must also believe in Him and serve Him. If we love Jesus and seek to serve Him, we must also follow Him - where He goes we too must go, being ready to take up our cross and suffer as He did, and die to ourselves.
By giving-up His life; through His death on the cross and resurrection, Jesus has saved countless lives. He has prepared for those He has saved an unimaginably bright future in His own kingdom.
The person who follows Christ may lose his life in this world; may lose his belongings and even the respect of people in mainstream society. Yet, he or she will live forever with Jesus in His eternal kingdom. He will also receive honour throughout eternity from God who will honour those who in their lives honoured Jesus.
However, as it is written: “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived”— the things God has prepared for those who love him. 1 Corinthians 2:9
